My name is
Mark, Warrior For Jesus. I have always been a
passionate, aggressive person. Before becoming a Follower of
Jesus my life was out of control involved in drugs,
alcohol and extreme violence.
Since I was a young child I knew that there was a God and that He had
a Son named Jesus who died on a cross. I had been taken to a
mainline Denomination with my grandmother Ruby Davis on Sunday
mornings.
When
I was thirteen I had a neighbor girl who liked to ride bikes with me.
She invited me to her Church on Sundays and the Church was faithful to
invite sinners to accept Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. I
really had an awakening at the time, I could tell that Jesus was real,
that He had died for my sins, and that He wanted me to accept Him.
I do not remember much about this Church except their
invitations each week.
I struggled with my concept of God. I thought that He must be
hard and tough on people looking for them to be perfect. I
expressed this to my oldest brother and He told me not to worry about
Jesus that it was Buddha who really had the answers. I
gave up in confusion, and told my friend that
I would not be returning to her Church ever again.
I made this decision to ignore Jesus when I was still thirteen. My
family said that I was a very loving person to everyone who met me, up
to that year. By the age of fourteen, I had become a different
person and did not care for anyone else but myself and a couple of my
friends. That was it. This transformation became worse
every year until I was 25 years old.
At the age of 19 I joined the Army to go to Viet Nam and fight for my belief in America, and itıs position to destroy
Communism on the face of the earth. The Army became my salvation
in my mind. I tested in the top scores of every subject, I
noticed that those with rank ordered around all those without rank.
I made up my mind immediately to advance in rank. I
studied, became a 'perfect' soldier and earned the rank of Sergeant in
22 months, all before Viet Nam.
I went home for a 30 day leave
before I had to report to California for a transport to Viet Nam, this
way I could say goodbye to my family and friends. This was 30
days of party time with my friends just back from Viet Nam, and they
told me that we would never meet again because men with my job duties
in Country, usually lived less than 120 days. With a week left
of my leave, I received Orders from the Department of the Army that my
Orders had been changed, and I was to return to Alabama to train
pilots from around the world.
Certain things began to happen to me and my family in the Army over
the next few years. I finally figured out that the Army could
never be my salvation after all. This
new revelation left me in a hopeless situation, lost without direction
so I finally turned to drugs to add to my alcoholism. My violent
agenda increased all the more, and I planned to take a life of the
next person who bothered me beyond my ability to ignore. I went
from being a 'perfectı soldier to an insane rebel and fought the
Army, and everyone else, with the insanity that I had given myself to.
After serving my Country for seven years in the Army, Jesus came
to me in the lowest point of my life and revealed Himself to me. Now, I had found everything I had been looking for all of my
life, all in Jesus! With six months left in the Army, I began to
immediately change my behavior and went to everyone I could find that
I knew I had ever offended or hurt and asked them to forgive me.
I was water baptized in a very cold lake, while under the water, I
gave Jesus my cigarette addiction, when I came back out of the water,
I was set free from smoking. A few months later, I was baptized
in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Jesus delivered me from my alcoholism and drug addiction and violent
lifestyle immediately.
My wife Deborah, was unable to have children, but she cried out to
Father and He heard her prayers. The Lord opened her womb and we
had our firstborn child, a son, named John. Our second son, Luke
was born 20 months later. Our third son, Matthew was born 12+
months later. I had my three sons that I always wanted. I had what I wanted
but Deborah wanted a little girl. Well, it came to me that if
she wanted a little girl, why not ask Jesus for twin girls, so we
prayed for twin girls.
Two
months later, Deborah came home from a doctors appointment with an
ultrasound picture showing we were having twin girls! Seven
months later Ruth and Sarah were born perfect. Not long after,
Rachel was born and a year later the LORD gave us Naomi. Seven
children in less then seven years! Praise the LORD!
I have given all of these details because this is the blueprint of Godıs
redemption of my life. We are now a part of four
generations of Christians. Our hearts are swelled with His love and
care for us. The important one in this testimony is -
Jesus
Receive
Jesus
